Cyber hygiene is the set of everyday habits and settings that prevent common security problems.

Core hygiene checklist (beginner version)

Account hygiene

  • Use strong, unique passwords (or a password manager)
  • Turn on MFA when available
  • Do not share accounts

Update hygiene

  • Keep operating systems and apps updated
  • Remove unused software when possible

Device hygiene

  • Lock your screen when you step away
  • Use antivirus/endpoint protection if available
  • Avoid unknown USB devices

Data hygiene

  • Back up important data
  • Know where the “source of truth” is stored
